Another fun fact about Chocolate: Religion. While most people of the time didn’t see chocolate as some kind of pagans drink, there is always exceptions, there were still some pushback from religious entities to chocolate. Chocolate as a whole was considered a luxury for nobles and aristocrat, so it was somewhat compared to wine, which has pretty strict rules in church and religious activities. As a results, Chocolate was valued and used pretty much the same as wine so there were some restriction on when, how and where to consume it for people of the church.
