This is the greatest flaw in Buddhism/Hinduism (if I’m not misunderstood). The fact that it’s a lifestyle instead of a religion. There’s no obligation to worship in it. The aim is to have a good karma. And this shaving thing isn’t an obligation either, say if the person doesn’t have any worldly desire related to their hair or drink, or eat meat, they have no reason to stay away and the higher ranked monk doesn’t have a right to order them as it’s something personal and only the person know and God knows if their heart truly doesn’t have worldly desire connected with those things.
And about the Karmic system, everyone even if not Buddism/Hidduism themselves is auto-registered in their system. besides, other religions also have this karmic and asceticism concepts. The others aren’t just a lifestyle, kingdom/country law, and also obligation to worship which makes a religion a religion.

I have a personal attachment to this chapter. cuz I went through a lot in HS and college to grow my hair. When I got to working life I grew my hair and it went past my butt.
It was to the point that men fell for me and women were starstruck when they see my face if I shave my beard while having really long luscious hair xD. It’s currently long enough to reach the center of my back now
